Peter Brainin and Friends in concert

Saxophonist Peter Brainin will perform at Plymouth State University Thursday, October 2 at 8 p.m.

Brainen began his career with the Hilton Ruiz Ensemble and went on to play with other Afro-Latin jazz masters like Mongo Santamaria, Chico O’Farrill and Bobby Sanabria.

He has also recorded with Steve Berrios, Son Bacheche and the Pap Vazquez Band, and has performed and/or recorded with Randy Weston, Idris Muhammad, Wynton Marsalis, George Mraz, Eddie Henderson, Paquito D’Rivera, Ronnie Mathews and others.

He has two recordings with drummer Steve Johns that feature many of his own compositions. He is a member of Jazz at the Lincoln Center’s new Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra and the Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Big Band that has been in residence at New York’s famed Birdland for five consecutive years.
