NEW LONDON, N.H. – Plymouth State University and Colby-Sawyer College battled through regulation play and two overtimes Tuesday afternoon in men’s soccer, but finished with a 1-1 non-conference deadlock.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game on an “own” goal, as a Panther defender attempted a pass back to the goalkeeper but the ball ended up in the net. PSU evened the score with 6:20 to play in the first half when a shot by sophomore Felix Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) was stopped by Charger goalkeeper Adam Perron (Hampden, Mass.), but junior Chris Catatao (Burlington, Mass.) knocked home the rebound for his third goal of the season.
Both teams had chances the rest of the way, but neither was able to score. PSU finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-2 margin in corner kicks.
Senior Dan Custance (Holderness, N.H.) finished with four saves in the Panther net while Perron had two stops for the Chargers.
PSU, 6-3-1 overall, returns home to prepare for Saturday’s contest against archrival and Little East Conference-leading Keene State (1:00 p.m.). Colby-Sawyer, 3-6-2 overall, is home again Saturday against Curry in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match (1:00 p.m.).
