SALEM, Mass. – Salem State College staged a second-half comeback Wednesday evening en route to a 2-2 draw with Plymouth State University in a non-conference women’s soccer match at Alumni Field.
Plymouth State took a 2-0 lead before the Vikings battled back to forge the deadlock. The outcome leaves both teams with a 4-4-1 overall record.
Senior Kara Arnold (Wolfeboro, N.H.) scored the first goal of the game for PSU at the 5:41 mark. The Panthers outshot the Vikings 14-3 in the first half but had to settle for the 1-0 lead. Freshman Stacy DiSabato (Manchester, N.H./Central) made it a 2-0 game five minutes into the second half with her first career goal.
The Vikings came back with goals from junior Vanessa Lima (Amherst, Mass.) at 67:45 and senior Therese Lefebvre (Weymouth, Mass.) with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. PSU finished with a 24-8 advantage in shots for the game, but it ended in a 2-2 tie.
Salem State senior Abigail DeAngelo (Lowell, Mass) made eight saves while Panther junior Ashley Riberdy (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) stopped six shots.
PSU returns to Little East Conference action Saturday at Southern Maine (1:00 p.m.), while the Lady Vikings visit Fitchburg State Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
