WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Jay Londer (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) scored two goals apiece Saturday evening to lead Plymouth State University past Assumption College in ECAC Northeast Conference men’s ice hockey action at Buffone Rink.
Londer also collected two assists and Chambers one as the Panthers collected their fourth straight victory overall and their fifth consecutive league win. PSU improved to 7-9-1 overall and 6-1-0 in conference play, while Assumption, which has dropped seven of its last eight, fell to 3-14-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the ECAC Northeast.
Chambers tallied his first goal of the game on a Panther power play midway through the opening period. Londer notched his first of the game 8:15 into the second frame to put PSU up 2-0, but junior Randy Morin (Auburn, Maine) answered for the IceDogs less than two minutes later with his first of the season, cutting the margin in half.
PSU pulled away late in the second period, scoring two goals just 41 seconds apart. Junior Bobby Dashner (Hyde Park, Mass.) scored a power play goal at 15:41, and Chambers added his second of the game at 16:22. Chambers leads the team in scoring and is the leading freshman scorer in the ECAC Northeast with 13 goals and 12 assists in 17 games.
Junior Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden) gave the visitors a 5-1 lead with his ninth of the season to open the third period scoring, and Londer’s second of the game, a PPG, and eighth of the season made it 6-1. Senior Dan Surette (Woburn, Mass.) scored for Assumption to round out the scoring.
Plymouth State finished with a 38-32 advantage in shots. Freshman goalie Erik Shields (Lebanon, Maine) made 30 saves to improve his season record to 4-0-0. Freshman Jamie DiGiulio (Peabody, Mass.) recorded 32 saves for the IceDogs.
The Panthers are in third place in the ECAC Northeast, and will visit Wentworth Institute of Technology for a conference game this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
