PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women’s tennis team captured its third consecutive victory Friday afternoon, defeating Salem State College, 6-3, in a Little East Conference match at the P.E. Center Courts.
PSU won two of the three doubles matches to take the lead, and put the Vikings away with victories in four of the six singles matches. The Panthers improve to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in the LEC, while Salem State drops to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Senior Erica Huckins (Holderness, N.H.) and junior Joan Kietzman (Plymouth, N.H.) led the Panthers with two victories apiece. Huckins won in straight sets at No. 3 singles after teaming up with junior Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.) for a win at No. 1 doubles, and Kietzman took her No. 5 singles match in straight sets after pairing up with sophomore Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H.) for a victory at No. 2 doubles.
PSU’s other winners were senior Kiley Boyd (Brattleboro, Vt.) at No. 4 singles and freshman Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, Mass.) at No. 6 singles.
Senior Kie Tanaka (Osaka, Japan) and freshman Megan Cote (Fall River, Mass.) remained undefeated at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions for Salem State, and junior Sara Paunovic (Lynn, Mass.) and Janelle Suckley (Peabody, Mass.) took their match at No. 3 doubles.
PSU is home again on Tuesday with a non-conference match against Castleton State (4:00 p.m.) Salem State is back in action Thursday at Curry (3:30 p.m.)
