BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) scored four goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Plymouth State University field hockey team to an 8-0 Little East Conference win over Bridgewater State College at Swenson Athletic Facility.
The Panthers scored three goals in the first frame, two by Silva. Assists were given to sophomore Melanie Bates (Derry, N.H.) and senior Caitlin Moran (Rowley, Mass.). The other goal was an unassisted tally by sophomore Christina Farias (East Dennis, Mass.).
The second half was more of the same for the Panthers as they scored five times. Senior Amanda Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) tallied a goal and an assist while Silva hammered home two more of her own to increase her team scoring lead to 15 goals. Sophomore Laurie Allinson (Berwick, Maine) recorded her first career goal, and senior Annie Metz (North Chelmsford, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal.
Freshmen Leah Curtin (Londonderry, N.H.) and Katie Randall (Portsmouth, N.H.) combined for two saves in the Panther net for the shutout. Lauren Mazzola and Nicole Downs combined for 20 saves in the BSC net.
Plymouth State, 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the LEC, travels to Eastern Connecticut next Sunday, Oct. 17, for an LEC clash (2:00 p.m.). Bridgewater State, 1-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play, visits Endicott on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.)
