The 30th anniversary of the Plymouth State University MBA program, and the seventh annual PSU Small Business Institute (SBI) awards ceremony, will be held as a joint celebration beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 9, at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord.
Featured speakers are: Wallace Stevens, president of Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. of Boston, a 1962 Plymouth State graduate and chair of the PSU President’s Council; and Phil Desmond, 2001G, owner of Brown Furniture in Lebanon, and a 1998 award winner in the SBI program.
The Plymouth State University MBA program has been providing quality graduate education for working professionals at convenient locations throughout New Hampshire since 1974. Only three years later, the Small Business Institute Program was created to develop partnerships and give small businesses intensive management counseling by qualified graduate students, at no charge to the client. In turn, the SBI program gives MBA students valuable training and experience within a service-learning model.
Projects focus on a full range of management-oriented issues such as marketing studies, accounting and computer systems, personnel, expansion and relocation considerations, the value of e-commerce and the feasibility of starting a new business.
The Plymouth State SBI was honored with the 2003 Showcase Award which is presented each year by the Small Business Institute of America to the college or university deemed by vote of the membership to have the most outstanding SBI program. The award acknowledges the consistent high quality of reports submitted by Plymouth State MBA students to the national Case of the Year competition, according to Plymouth State SBI Director Craig Zamzow.
Plymouth State MBA students have captured at least one first- or second-place award at the national competition for six consecutive years. Awards will be presented to last year’s national winners and this year’s regional winners.
The Plymouth State MBA program is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs and is the only MBA program in New Hampshire to offer the award-winning SBI learning experience.
