SALEM, Mass. – Plymouth State University’s men’s soccer team improved to 3-0-0 on the season Saturday with a 3-0 triumph over Salem State College in a non-conference affair.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first half, and added two more in the second stanza to seal the victory. Salem State drops to 1-2 this season.
Freshman Felix Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) knocked in his first goal of the season for PSU with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, with junior Sebastian Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica/Plymouth H.S.-NH) registering an assist.
PSU made it 2-0 in the 69th minute on a picture-perfect play, as senior Sal Friello (West Haven, CT) finished off some nifty passing from sophomore Adam Bakanosky (Hampstead, N.H.) and junior Michael Cantelli (Raymond, N.H.). Cantelli then finished off the scoring for the Panthers with a goal on a penalty kick with 12 minutes remaining.
PSU senior goalkeeper Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, NJ) picked up his second straight shutout with a six-save effort. Salem keeper Tim Doucette was credited with five saves.
Plymouth State returns home to host Bowdoin this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Panther Field.
