Love jazz? Then come to the Silver Center at Plymouth State University Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. to hear a renowned jazz combo, the Arturo O’Farrill Trio.
Born in Mexico, raised in New York City and educated at the Manhattan School of Music and the Brooklyn College Conservatory, jazz pianist Arturo O’Farrill has performed with musical greats such as Freddy Cole, Steve Turre, Wynton Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie and The Fort Apache Band.
He is the musical director of the Afro-Latin Orchestra at Lincoln Center and director of the Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Big Band, named for his father.
A prolific recording artist, O’Farrill’s debut album with the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, Una Noche Inolvidable M/i>(An Unforgettable Night), earned a Grammy nomination in 2006. He won the 2003 Latin Jazz USA Outstanding Achievement Award.
The Silver Series brings to Plymouth State University a variety of professional guest artists whose work reflects the best in American and world cultures.
Tickets for the Arturo O’Farrill Trio performance are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and $8 for youth at the Silver Center box office, (603) 535-ARTS. Box office hours are Monday – Friday, noon–6 p.m. The box office will be closed from Nov. 22–26, 2006.
