PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Steve Skinner (Hingham, Mass.) scored five goals and junior Pat O’Malley (South Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore Jon Gagnon (New Bedford, Mass.) added four goals apiece Sunday afternoon as Plymouth State University breezed past Johnson State College, 23-2, in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game at Panther Field.
Playing its first home game of the season, PSU cruised to a 5-0 advantage by the end of the first quarter, and made it a 14-0 at halftime. The Panthers were never challenged and improved to 4-5 overall, while the Badgers dropped to 0-6 on the season.
There were 11 different Panthers who got into the scoring act. Sophomore Bobby Dabrieo (Woburn, Mass.) and freshman Nick Pearson (Peterborough, N.H.) collected two goals apiece, and solo tallies were recorded by juniors Matt McCormick (Sudbury, Mass.) and John Gallagher (Forestdale, Mass.), sophomore John Padua (Hamden, Conn.), and freshmen Drew Gobiel (Chelmsford, Mass.), Jose Perez (Jamaica Plain, Mass.), and Tim Vasconcellos (East Falmouth, Mass.).
Sophomore Travis Johnson (Montville, N.J.) and senior Erik Marsteller (Monkton, Md.) each scored once for the visitors, and freshman Charlie Viana (Valley Stream, N.Y.) assisted on both goals.
Freshman Evan Pestone (Cohasset, Mass.) made 20 saves for Johnson State, while three Panther goalies – freshman Steve Valeri (Chelmsford, Mass.), sophomore Michael Rodrick (Plaistow, N.H.) and senior Tim McNamara (West Lebanon, N.H.) combined for 11 saves.
Plymouth State wraps up the regular season with two home games this week, Thursday against Daniel Webster (6:00 p.m.) and Saturday vs. UMass Dartmouth (2:00 p.m.). Johnson State plays Wednesday at Green Mountain College.
