WATERVILLE, Maine – Senior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) scored six goals and one assist and freshman Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) added five goals Thursday afternoon as the Plymouth State University women’s lacrosse team continued their outstanding season with a 14-8 non-conference victory over Colby College at Crafts Field.
The Panthers improved to 12-0 on the season and extended their unbeaten streak to 21 games, dating back to last season. Colby lost for the third time in its last four outings and slipped to 6-8.
Plymouth State took an 8-3 lead at halftime and ran away with the victory. In addition to Sheridan and MacDonald, PSU got one goal apiece from sophomore Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.), senior Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.), and freshman Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.).
Sheridan, who leads the Little East Conference in scoring, improved her season totals to 55 goals and 20 assists for 75 points. She also extended her PSU career scoring records to 246 goals and 327 points; the 246 goals ranks 13th on the all-time Division III women’s lacrosse records list, and the 327 points ranks 14th all-time in Division III.
Sarah Burlingham (Radnor, Pa.) and Emma Miller (Wellesley, Mass.) both had two goals and one assist to lead the Mules.
Senior goalie Carmen Villanueva (East Shodack, N.Y.) made 15 saves to earn the win. She improved her season record to 12-0 and her career mark to 34-4. Catharine O’Brien made nine saves for Colby.
PSU wraps up the regular season Saturday at home with a Little East Conference match-up against UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.). The Panthers are 5-0 in the LEC this season, 20-0 all-time against LEC opponents, and are seeking to wrap up their third straight Little East regular season title.
Colby concludes its regular season Saturday at home against Wesleyan (11 a.m.).
