The Plymouth State University Venture Center announces a series of new swimming programs available to adults and children this summer. These programs are designed for swimmers of all abilities, from beginner through advanced.

“Swimming skills are a safety necessity in the lakes region of New Hampshire, and swimming is an excellent activity for health, fitness, and just plain fun!” says Barb McCahan, chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at PSU. “We can all benefit from these opportunities to learn to swim, or improve our swimming abilities. Opening the door for all age groups to swim is a great opportunity for the whole community.”

For adult swimmers, the Master Swim program will run 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from June 21 to August 13. This eight week program will offer instruction for swimmers at all levels. The cost of the program is $30. Additionally, individual lessons may be scheduled for more personal instruction at a cost of $20 per session.

Three sessions of swimming lessons for youth will be held this summer. Many levels of instruction are available, from infant and toddler to advanced skills for experienced swimmers. Dates for the sessions are July 12-16, July 19-23, and July 26-30. Each session is available for the price of $20, and sessions start at 1:30 p.m.

Additionally, a youth swim team will be held June 21 to August 5. The program is designed to develop and refine strokes with competitive opportunities available. Practices will be held 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays. This seven-week program is available to youth ages six and above for $160.

The program will also offer summer job opportunities for people in the community. Energetic, hardworking candidates are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of CPR and First Aid is a plus, but serious applicants will be trained.

All swimming classes are held at the Plymouth State University PE Center. For information, visit the Venture Center’s website,, or contact Angel Ekstrom, Venture Center Coordinator at (603) 535-2622.
