NORTHFIELD, Vt. — Plymouth State University tallied a goal in each half and limited Norwich to just two shots on goal Wednesday afternoon as the Panthers blanked Norwich University, 2-0, in a non-conference women’s soccer match on Howard Field.
Plymouth State got on the board first in the 22nd minute when sophomore Casey Bishop (Topsham, Maine) bent a ball towards the back post from the top of the 18 on the left side. Freshman Krista Pettrey (Northfield, Vt.) ran unmarked onto the ball and fired a shot that was deflected by Cadets’ goalkeeper Megan Fleshman (Troy, N.Y.) but rolled into the back of the net.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the 69th minute on freshman Kelsey MacDonald‘s (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) header.
Plymouth State outshot Norwich 10-2 in the match.
PSU, which improves to 2-0-0 on the season, returns home to host Saint Joseph’s Saturday at Panther Field (4:00 p.m.). Norwich, 1-3, will travel to Emerson on Saturday for a 1:00 Great Northeast Athletic Conference match.
