BOSTON, Mass. – A corner kick by senior MF Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) ended up in the far right corner of the net at 11:52 of the first half and that stood up as the only goal of the match Saturday afternoon, lifting the Plymouth State University women’s soccer team past the University of Massachusetts Boston, 1-0, in the Little East Conference opener for both schools at the Clark Athletic Center.
Plymouth State dominated the match, holding a 20-1 shot advantage in the first half and a 37-3 advantage for the day. The Beacons fall to 2-3-0 overall while the Panthers improve to 3-1-0.
UMB freshman keeper Jessica Penta (Revere, Mass.) matched her season-high with 17 saves, while junior Ashley Riberdy (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) stopped two shots for the Panthers in her first start of the season.
The Beacons will be in action again on Thursday when they host Worcester State (3:30 p.m.), while Plymouth State travels to Worcester State on Tuesday for a non-conference clash (7:00 p.m.)
