GORHAM, Maine – Plymouth State University parlayed pins from sophomore Brandon Black (Keene, N.H.) and senior Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vermont) Wednesday evening to a 27-16 win over the University of Southern Maine in a college wrestling match.
Plymouth State improves to 3-9 in dual meets, while Southern Maine drops its second consecutive to stand at 6-4 overall. PSU has now won all 11 meetings against Southern Maine in the series history.
Black, wrestling in the 165-pound weight class, pinned Husky freshman Shane Stephenson (Pine Bush, N.Y.) in 6:09, while Kittredge earned a pin over USM freshman Adam Cueto (Lawrence, Mass.) in 5:57 at 184 pounds. Kittredge’s win was his team-leading 20th of the season and his fifth pin of the campaign.
The Panthers also earned wins from freshman Chris Greenwood (Manchester, N.H./ West) at 125, senior Dave Preciado (Stoneham, Mass.) at 133, senior Dan Moskowitz (Amherst, N.H.) at 157, and junior Nick Gurney (Dixfield, Maine) at 174.
Freshman Jeff Warren (Kensington, N.H.) earned a pin for Southern Maine at 149 pounds. Co-captains senior Phil Hamilton (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) and junior Matt Waite (Canton, Maine/Mt. Blue) each earned wins for the Huskies with back-to-back 3-1 decisions at 197 and 285.
Both teams return to action Sunday, Jan. 23, at the New England Dual Meet Championships, hosted by Bridgewater State College. Matches begin at 11 a.m.
