WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Sophomore Kyle Poirier (Concord, N.H.) scored a goal and two assists Saturday evening, leading Plymouth State College to a 6-4
victory over Nichols College in an ECAC Northeast Conference ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The win, PSC’s first of the season, give the Panthers a 1-3-2 overall record (1-2-2 in the Northeast) heading into the break for final exams and the holidays. Nichols
drops to 1-7-1 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
PSC took a 3-1 lead after one period, and maintained a 4-2 advantage after two frames. Nichols cut the margin to 5-4 with a pair of third period goals, but the
Panthers added a power play goal with two minutes remaining to put the game away.
Six different players provided goals for the Panthers. Freshman Nick DeBaggis (Topsfield, Mass.), junior Ryan Luczynski (Concord, N.H.) and Poirier tallied
first-period scores, sophomore Michal Bodnar (Czech Republic) added his first goal of the season in the middle stanza, and sophomore Mitchell LaFleur (Levittown, Pa.)
and freshman Paul Feeney (Lowell, Mass.) connected on third-period scores.
The Bison got two goals from junior Dave Borgatti (West Springfield, Mass.) and one goal each from juniors Mike Loftus (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Alan Canale
(Weymouth, Mass.). Three of Nichols’ goals came on the power play.
PSC junior Mike Mansson (Wilson, Wyo.) registered his second career victory with a 21-save effort. Senior Adam Gray (Bradford, Mass.) made 27 saves for
Nichols. PSC outshot the visitors, 33-25.
After a three-week break from competition, PSC returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 7, with a non-conference encounter at UMass Dartmouth (7:30 p.m.). Nichols is
off until a Jan. 10 home contest against Neumann College (5:00 p.m.).
