WALTHAM, Mass. – Plymouth State College is in seventh place after two days of competition at the New England Division II-III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Bentley College.
Seven more events were held on Saturday after the first nine on Friday, with 17 teams competing. UMass Dartmouth and Keene State share the team lead after 16 events with 594 points apiece, followed by Bentley (497), St. Michael’s (387), Norwich (284), Bridgewater State (276) and Plymouth State (263). Rounding out the top ten were Gordon (243), Eastern Connecticut (229) and Simmons (223).
Freshman Scarlette Scarborough (Salem, N.H.) had the top performances for PSC on the second day. She brought home sixth place in the 100 yard backstroke with a personal best time of 1:06.41, and she swam on two successful PSC relay teams. She was joined by juniors Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine) and Amy Bernier (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore Andrea Boutilier (Chicopee, Mass.) for a fourth place in the 800 yard freestyle relay and a sixth place in the 200 yard medley relay.
Other PSC individuals to score points Saturday included Bernier with an eighth place in the 50 fly (29.76), Boutilier with an 11th place in the 50 fly (30.50) and freshman Katie Koch (Jeffersonville, Vt.) with a 17th place in the 100 back (1:11.90).
The preliminaries of the three-meter diving event were held Saturday, and the Panthers sent three freshman divers into Sunday night’s finals. Jen Crescenzi (Killingworth, Conn.) goes into the finals in fourth place with a score of 334.15, followed by Kristin Kearins (Andover, Mass.) in fifth (333.95) and Becky Huntington (Hampstead, N.H.) in sixth (333.15).
The championships continue with final eight events Sunday.
