FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Junior Matt Toutain (Lewiston, Maine) and freshman Paul Feeney (Lowell, Mass.) scored two goals apiece Sunday evening, leading the
Plymouth State College ice hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Framingham State College in an ECAC Northeast Conference game.
The win pulls the Panthers back to the .500 mark at 4-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference, while Framingham State drops to 1-12-1 overall and 0-7 in the
Northeast. PSC is 4-1-1 since the second week of December.
Toutain and Feeney each scored a first period goal to stake the Panthers to a 1-0 lead. Framingham State senior Bill Burke (Braintree, Mass.) countered for the
hosts just 34 seconds after Feeney’s goal to cut the margin to 2-1.
Toutain and Feeney struck again in the first 10 minutes of the second period to give the Panthers a 4-1 advantage. Toutain doubled his season output in the game,
giving him four goals on the season, while Feeney now has five goals. Freshman Nick DeBaggis (Topsfield, Mass.), who assisted on Feeney’s second score, added his
fourth of the season on the power play at the 11:54 mark to make it a 5-1 game.
Senior Craig Russell (Northfield, Vt.) extended PSC’s lead to 6-1 with his fourth of the season early in the third period. Freshman Greg Brogan (Bedford, Mass.)
rounded out the scoring for the Rams with his second of the season at 7:44 of the third.
Freshman goaltender Chris Hyson (Colchester, Conn.) captured his third straight victory for the Panthers, making 12 saves. Freshman Brian Greely (Lynn, Mass.)
stopped 40 shots for Framingham as PSC outshot the Rams, 46-14.
Plymouth State returns home to host Southern New Hampshire University Wednesday in a Northeast Conference game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (6:00 p.m.).
