PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore J.P. Sallese (Beverly, MA) scored six goals and assisted on three others for a career-best nine-point game Saturday
afternoon, leading Plymouth State College’s men’s lacrosse team to a 16-4 victory over UMass Boston in a Pilgrim League game at Panther Field.
The Panthers improve to 3-1 in the Pilgrim League and remain alive for a league play-off berth, while UMB falls to 1-4 in the league. Both teams are now
PSC led 4-0 six minutes into the game, but the Beacons responded with three unanswered goals, getting the third score just 26 seconds into the second
quarter. It was the Panthers the rest of the way, though, as PSC scored 11 consecutive goals over the next 39 minutes and held UMB off the scoreboard until the
last five minutes of the game.
Sallese scored three times in each half and improved his season totals to 17 goals and 19 assists. He got offensive help from seniors Josh Perry (Falmouth,
MA), who tallied a goal and five assists, and Nate Ostis (Yarmouth, ME), who contributed three goals and two assists. Junior Ben Stone (Acton, MA) and
sophomore Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, CT) added two goals apiece, Martocchio scoring his 98th career goal and needing just two more to become the fifth
player in school history to score 100 times.
Also getting into the scoring act for PSC were freshman Andrew Quesnel (Middlebury, VT) and Jon Hunt (Guilford, CT) with one goal apiece, and junior
Pete Slaski (Bayville, NY) with a pair of assists.
The Beacons were led by senior Chris DeMaio (Newton, MA), who registered two goals and one assist. Senior Rob Dudley (Medford, MA) notched a
goal and an assist, and Chris Greeley (Newton, MA) added the other Beacons’ goal.
Both goalies played well, with UMB’s Will Fleming (Braintree, MA) and PSC’s Nate Pearson (Bow, NH) each making 19 saves.
The Panthers wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games this week — Wednesday (Apr. 28) at Bates (3:30 p.m.) and Saturday (May 1) at Pilgrim
