BOSTON, Mass. – Six different players tallied goals and junior Jamie Vanek (Brampton, Ont.) made 21 saves Saturday as Wentworth got back on the winning track
with a 6-0 win over Plymouth State College in an ECAC Northeast ice hockey contest at Matthews Arena.
Wentworth, which suffered its first conference loss Wednesday in an upset at the hands of Salve Regina, improves to 15-3-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the ECAC
Northeast. The Panthers drop to 4-10-1 and 4-6-0.
The Leopards got on the board three times in the first period. Senior defenseman McGregor Chadwick (North Clarendon, Vt.) scored the eventual game winner at
12:02 of the first, followed by a power play goal by junior defenseman Zach Wotherspoon (Lincoln, R.I.) at 15:59. The Leopards increased their lead to 3-0 with a goal by
freshman forward Shawn Metheral (Delta, B.C.).
Wentworth added a goal in the second as sophomore forward Alex Marinkovich (Kelowna, B.C.) scored a power play goal at 1:49.
The Leopards closed out the scoring with two in the third, as sophomore forward Ben Pierce (Merritt, B.C.) tallied a power play goal at 12:29, and sophomore
defenseman Michael Nicoletta (Staten Island, N.Y.) added another at 14:31.
Senior goalie Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) made 55 saves for the Panthers, who were outshot 61-21.
The Panthers are back in action Tuesday (Jan. 29) with a conference home game against Curry at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (7:00 p.m.).
