COLCHESTER, Vt. — Courtney Meier had two goals and an assist in Saint Anselm College’s 3-0 victory over Plymouth State College on Sunday in the second day
of the Radisson Kick-Off Classic at Saint Michael’s College. Meier’s performance earned her co-MVP honors for the tournament, along with Niki Pelletier of Saint
The Hawks came out firing early and got on the board in the seventh minute when Maura Naughton’s long kick was deflected by Plymouth State keeper Becky
Kennedy (W. Springfield, MA) and trickled into the net. Meier scored her first goal 10 minutes later from just inside the box after deking Kennedy, making it 2-0 at the half.
The lone second half goal came off the foot of Meier in the 62nd minute after passes from Kristin Scalia and Jane Larocque. Meier broke free in the box and beat
Kennedy to the lower far side of the net.
For the second straight day the Panthers were out shot, this time 20-6. Saint Anselm keeper Vicky Eddy made two saves before back-up keepers Kathryn Mullin
and Kelley Moylan shared the final 15 minutes without being tested. Kennedy came up with 11 saves for 23 total saves during the Classic.
Saint Anselm officially won the Classic by outscoring its opponents 5-1 during two games this weekend. Erin Murphy and Alissa Pereira from Saint Anselm were
both named to the All-Tournament team while Plymouth State’s Kate Van Tassel (Natick, MA), Jill Wolters (Vernon, NJ) and Katie Sheridan (W. Sayville, NY) earned
honors for the Panthers.
PSC, 0-2-0, returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 5) with a non-conference game at Bridgewater State (3:30 p.m.). The home opener is next Saturday (Sept. 8) at
Panther Field against Wheaton College (2 p.m.).
