LEWISTON, Maine – Freshman Derek Masse (Dracut, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game with just over five minutes remaining Wednesday to
give Plymouth State College a 1-0 victory over Bates College in non-conference men’s soccer action.
Masse finished off the evenly-matched contest with his first career goal, which was assisted by junior Justin Wengell (Newington, Conn.) at 84:36.
PSC won for the second straight outing to even its record at 3-3-0 overall, while Bates drops to 2-3-0.
PSC senior goalkeeper Scott Laine (Spencer, Mass.) picked up the victory with a two-save effort. It was his first shutout of the season and sixth of his
career. Bates keeper Dan Spector was credited with four saves. Both teams registered five shots on goal.
Plymouth State returns home to host Eastern Connecticut Saturday (Sept. 29) at Panther Field in a Little East Conference contest (3:00 p.m.).
