WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Senior Josh Perry (Falmouth, MA) scored his sixth goal of the season 2:47 into overtime Saturday night to lead the Plymouth State College ice
hockey team to a 3-2 ECAC Northeast Conference victory over Worcester State College.
The victory clinched a post-season berth for Plymouth State in the upcoming ECAC Northeast play-offs.
The Panthers had numerous opportunities, outshooting the Lancers by a 60-14 count. WSC sophomore Chad McGillicuddy (Westfield, MA) did all he could in the Lancers net,
making 57 saves, including 21 in the first period and 20 in the second stanza. But Perry took a pass in the right corner from Kevin Creighton (Falmouth, MA) and beat McGillicuddy for
Plymouth State trailed 1-0 after the first period despite owning a 21-8 edge in shots on goal. Junior Kevin Rothemich (Coventry, RI) scored for Worcester State on the power play,
with assists from Fran Keefe (Worcester, MA) and Matt Riley (Quincy, MA).
The Panthers came back to tie it early in the second period on a goal by freshman Dave Moore (Anchorage, AK), with an assist by Rob Fox (Mashpee, MA). PSC went ahead on a
power play goal early in the third period by John Power (Reading, MA), but the Lancers knotted the score at 2-2 at the 5:05 mark of the third on a score by Mark Hill (Townsend, MA).
Plymouth State freshman goalie Larry Forgue (Nashua, NH), the ECAC Northeast leader in goals against average and saves percentage made 12 saves in the Panther net.
PSC returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 23) with a Northeast Conference game at Western New England (8:00 p.m.), then returns home next Saturday (Feb. 27) to host Northeast
leading UMass Dartmouth (7:00 p.m.). Worcester State hosts Nichols Tuesday (7:30 p.m.).
