BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Shawn Metheral (Delta, B.C.) scored twice and had four assists Saturday night to pace Wentworth to a 10-0 win over Plymouth
State College in an ECAC Northeast ice hockey contest at Matthews Arena.
Sophomore Brad Carpenter (Kamloops, B.C.) also contributed three goals and an assist for the Leopards, and junior Alex Marinkovich (Kelowna, B.C.) had two
goals and a pair of assists.
The win helped Wentworth posts its school-record fifth shutout of the season and improve its record to 13-3-2 overall and 8-1-1 in ECAC Northeast play. The
Panthers drop their fourth straight to fall to 4-8-3 overall and 2-5-2 in the league.
After a scoreless first period, the Leopards got on the board four times in the second stanza. Carpenter¹s goal at 1:59 gave Wentworth a 1-0 lead. Freshman
Blayne Goodman (Westlock, Alb.) made it 2-0 with a goal at 10:40, followed by freshman Mike Prsa¹s tally at 15:36. With 11 seconds remaining in the period, the
Leopards increased their lead to 4-0 with Marinkovich¹s first of the evening.
The third period saw Wentworth score six times, with Metheral and Carpenter each getting two goals, along with one each from Marinkovich and the first collegiate
goal by freshman Justin Anonas (Alameda, Calif.). Metheral also had three assists during the final 20 minutes of play.
Senior goalie Jamie Vanek (New Tecumseh, Ont.) made 21 saves for Wentworth in 56:12 of work, and sophomore Bryce McFadden (Saanichton, B.C.) came on
for a pair of saves in the final 3:48. Plymouth State freshman Chris Hyson (Colchester, Conn.) made 24 saves in the 45:56 of play, while freshman Joe McCabe (Saugus,
Mass.) turned aside six shots in the final 14:04.
PSC will be out to stop its losing skid Tuesday with its fourth straight road game, a 7:35 conference match-up at Curry.
