ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior Chris Bivona (Sparta,N.J.) scored four goals and three assists, and teammate Andy Meehan (Glastonbury, Conn.) added four goals as Skidmore College defeated Plymouth State College, 19-5, in a men’s lacrosse game played Wednesday night at the Disney World Complex.
The Thoroughbreds scored six goals in each of the first three periods to take control of the game. Skidmore took a 6-2 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 12-3 by halftime. It was 18-5 by the end of the third quarter before Skidmore coasted home with the win.
Freshman John Gagnon (New Bedford, Mass.) and sophomore Steve Skinner (Hingham, Mass.) provided the highlights for the Panthers with a goal and an assist each. Seniors Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) and Kevin Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and freshman Bobby Dabrieo (Woburn, Mass.) also scored goals for PSC, with senior Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, N.H.) and freshman Rob Thayer (West Tisbury, Mass.) collecting assists.
The assist for Biedrzycki was a milestone, as it gave the senior co-captain 100 points in his career. Biedrzycki now has 52 goals and 48 assists in 45 career games. McGuire will likely soon join him in the 100-point club. McGuire has 52 goals and 43 assists for 95 points in 45 games.
In addition to Bivona and Meehan, Skidmore got three goals from sophomore Rob Howard (Wilmington, Del.), two apiece from sophomore Brendan Bellefeuille (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Tommy Spinella (New Hartford, N.Y.) and one each from freshman Ted Cavan (Newburyport, Mass.), senior Rick Wright (Wayland, Mass.), and sophomores Taylor Brown (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Jason Del Pozzo (Penfield, N.Y.).
PSC freshman goalie Michael Rodrick (Plaistow, N.H.) held his own against the powerful Skidmore offense, making 18 saves. Junior Tim McNamara (West Lebanon, N.H.) came on for the last seven minutes and made one save.
The Panthers, 0-2, will look for their first win of the season Tuesday (Mar. 25) with a tough game at Bates College (7:00 p.m.). Skidmore improves to 3-2.
