WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Sophomore Mike Jackson (Middleton, Mass.) scored three goals Saturday, leading Plymouth State College’s ice hockey team to
an 8-4 victory over the Westfield State College club team in a non-conference game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The victory and game statistics do not officially count for Plymouth State because WSC is not a varsity team. Westfield is considering becoming varsity in the future.
Plymouth State was leading 4-2 late in the second period when Jackson netted a power play goal at the 17:41 mark. He added consecutive goals midway through
the third period to put PSC ahead 7-3, and the Panthers coasted the rest of the way.
Sophomores Matt Toutain (Lewiston, Maine) and Ryan Luczynski (Concord, N.H.) and freshmen Joe Dudek (Laconia, N.H.) and Aaron Keller (Concord, N.H.)
potted goals to give PSC a 4-1 lead early in the second period. Freshman Kyle Poirier (Concord, NH) was credited with three assists on the evening, and senior John
Hornor (Marlton, N.J.) had PSC’s other goal, scoring on a 5-on-3 power play late in the third period.
Freshman Marc McGuire (Bridgewater, Mass.) led the Owls with two goals and an assist. Senior Mike Fitzgerald (Duxbury, Mass.) and sophomore James
Carapella (Staten Island, N.Y.) also scored for WSC.
PSC outshot the Owls 40-32, including 22-5 in the first period. Sophomore Mike Mansson (Wilson, WY) made 28 saves for PSC, while Dustin Durej (Springfield,
Mass.) turned away 32 shots for WSC.
The Panthers will be back in action this Wednesday, Dec. 12th, when they travel to Johnson & Wales for an ECAC Northeast Conference game (7:00 p.m.). The
first semester schedule wraps up Saturday, Dec. 15th, with a conference match-up at Nichols College.
