PLYMOUTH, N.H. – In the opening dual meet of the season, the Plymouth State College women’s swimming & diving team got multiple victories from seniors Meaghan Buckley (Haverhill, MA) and Joyce Mailhot (Lewiston, Maine) and freshman Andrea Boutilier (Chicopee, Mass.) Saturday, but it was not enough to defeat visiting Westfield State, as the Owls pulled out a 156-149 victory at the P.S.C. Natatorium.
Buckley picked up from where she left off last season, winning three freestyle events – the 100, 200 and 500 in 56.19, 2:05.44 and 5:46 40, respectively. Mailhot captured both backstroke events, winning the 50 in 32.24 and taking the 100 in 1:09.15. Boutilier brought home first place in the 50 butterfly (29.73) and 50 free (26.38).
Also picking up victories for PSC were sophomore Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine) and Suzanne Lassonde (Concord, NH). Bregy placed first in the 100 fly (1:06.23) and Lassonde captured the voluntary one-meter diving (146.35).
PSC also rallied to captured the 400 free relay in the final event, thanks to the swimming of senior Sandy Twaddell (Jaffrey, NH), Buckley, Boutilier and Bregy, but Westfield held on for the team victory.
The Panthers, 0-1, competes Wednesday (Nov. 17) at Salem State (6 p.m.), and returns home next Saturday (Nov. 20) to host Bentley College (1 p.m.).
