WENHAM, Mass. – Matt Chapman scored a game-high eight goals Wednesday afternoon to lead Gordon College to a 22-16 victory over Plymouth State College in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game.
The victory improves Gordon to 3-2, while the Panthers drop to 2-3.
Plymouth State took an early 6-1 lead, only to see Gordon fight back to even the game at 6-apiece by the end of the first quarter. The Fighting Scots surged ahead in the second frame, taking a 12-7 lead by halftime. PSC cut the margin to four goals (15-11) by the end of the third, but Gordon put the game away with a seven-goal fourth quarter.
The Panthers continued to have a balanced offensive attack, with seven different players scoring at least two goals. Junior Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) led the way with three goals and two assists, while classmate Kevin Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added three goals and senior Andrew Quesnel (Middlebury, Vt.) tallied two goals and two assists. Two-goal efforts were also turned in by seniors Eric Gilbert (South Portland, Maine) and Nolan Fredericks (Temple, N.H.), junior Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, N.H.), and freshman Steve Skinner (Hingham, Mass.).
Junior goalkeeper Dan Egan (Cambridge, Mass.) made 12 saves in the Panther net.
Plymouth State is back in action Saturday with a Little East Conference road game at Keene State (12:00 p.m.).
