LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman forward Laura Petros (Tewksbury, MA/Tewksbury) scored two unassisted goals and assisted on another to lead the UMass Lowell
field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Plymouth
State College Wednesday at River View Field.
It was the third straight win for UML in as many games. The victory also extends the River Hawks’ winning streak to four carrying over from last season.
The River Hawks opened the scoring in the sixth minute as junior forward Mary Ruggles (Townsend, MA/North Middlesex) converted a goal off a pass from Petros.
UML grabbed a 2-0 cushion in the 12th minute when
Petros scored the first of her two unassisted goals.
Petros made it 3-0 in the 45th minute on another unassisted tally.
PSC, which slips to 0-1 this year, received a goal from junior forward Sacha Jackson (Sangerville, ME/Piscataquis) in the 63rd minute.
Shots were even as each team had 16. Freshman goalkeeper Patrice Mendoza (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington) had five saves while junior Marti Dennerly (Concord,
NH/Concord) stopped three shots.
The Panthers play another non-conference road game Saturday at 1 p.m. at Springfield College.
