PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The women’s tennis team at Plymouth State College suffered its first loss of the season Saturday with a 5-4 defeat at Rhode Island College.
PSC had lost to RIC 8-1 last year, but couldn’t pull off the upset this season over the perennial LEC power. The Panthers won two of the three doubles matches and two singles matches, and went to a third set in two others. RIC improves to 3-1 while PSC is now 1-1.
Junior Sarah Kasuba (Stratford, Conn.) and sophomore Lindsay Coletti (Hudson, Mass.) were PSC’s winners in singles, at No. 4 and No. 6 respectively. Kasuba paired with sophomore Katie Olsen (Reading, Mass.) to win the No. 2 doubles match, and sophomore Holly Mills (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Kelley Sheehan (Newburyport, Mass.) won at No. 3.
The Panthers continue action Monday (Sept. 17) with a home match against Salem State (3:30 p.m.).
