WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Plymouth State College got goals from four different players Saturday night and held on to defeat Johnson & Wales University,
4-3, in an ECAC Northeast Conference match-up at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The win improves the Panthers to 5-2 in the ECAC Northeast, which is tied for fourth in the 18-team league, and 7-5 overall, while the Wildcats drop to 2-5-0 in the Northeast and
Plymouth State took 2-0 first period lead on goals by sophomores Tom Beaulieu (Hudson, NH) and John Power (Reading, MA), Beaulieu connecting on his third goal of the
season and Power his first. Tory Jacob (Milford, CT) answered for JWU with a goal, but PSC went ahead 3-1 by the end of the period on Rich Vega’s (New Milford, CT) fourth of the
Johnson & Wales got the only goal of the second period, Bill Saltzman (Medway, MA) scoring and
Mark Deveaux (Bathurst, NB) picking up his second assist of the game.
Sophomore defenseman Jack Langelier (Marlboro, MA) scored his first career goal for PSC at 8:25 of the third for what proved to be the game-winner. JWU got to within one with
10 minutes remaining on a goal by Deveaux, but the Panthers held on down the stretch.
PSC freshman Larry Forgue (Nashua, NH) continued his superb rookie campaign, making 29 saves, including several key stops in the third period. JWU sophomore Scott
Jacob (Milford, CT) registered 28 saves for the Wildcats, including 18 in the second period.
PSC plays another ECAC Northeast game Tuesday (Jan. 12) at Assumption (7:15 p.m.).
