BOSTON, Mass. – Junior midfielder Phil Pittorino (Acton, Mass.) tallied 10 points on five goals and five assists Saturday to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men’s lacrosse team over Plymouth State College, 23-4, in a Little East Conference contest at the Clark Athletic Center.
The Beacons improve to 6-4 on the year and 2-2 in the conferenc, while the Panthers drop to 4-7 and 2-3.
UMass Boston took an early 2-0 lead, and then outscored Plymouth State 8-1 over a five minute span to take a 10-1 lead just 30 seconds into the second quarter. UMB went on to hold a 15-3 margin at halftime, and outscored the visitors 8-1 in the second half to coast to the victory.
Junior Josh Stolp (Hingham, Mass.) led all goal-scorers with seven goals for the Beacons. Sophomore Josh Forns (Falmouth, Mass.) racked up eight points on the day with four goals and four assists, while classmate Sing Phetvixay (Lowell, Mass.) finished with two goals and a pair of assists.
Sophomore Sam Harding (South Berwick, Maine), junior Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) and seniors Eric Gilbert (South Portland, Maine) and Nolan Fredericks (Temple, N.H.) scored goals for Plymouth State.
UMB goalie Jonny Walker (Sharon, Mass.) stopped even shots in 37 minutes of action and senior Jason Gardner made four saves in 23 minutes of relief. Junior Dan Egan (Cambridge, Mass.) turned away 13 shots for PSC.
Plymouth State returns home to host Saint Michael’s Wednesday in a non-conference contest (6:00 p.m.).
