PLYMOUTH, NH – One member of the strong group of newcomers on the Plymouth State College women’s basketball team has been honored by the
Little East Conference.
Freshman Courtney Albert (Hudson, NH) has been selected LEC Rookie of the Week after leading the Panthers in a 2-1 week. She averaged 13.7
points and 7.3 rebounds in the three games, helping PSC to a 7-2 overall record, the school’s best start in eight years.
A 5’9” forward, Albert scored in double figures in all three games, including a 19-point effort at Rivier College. She shot 54.8 percent from the field
(17-of-31), hit two of her three-point attempts and all five free throws, while adding five assists, one blocked shot and three steals.
Albert, who is leading the team with an 11.1 scoring average, is ranked ninth in the league in scoring, tops among freshmen. She is also second in the
conference in field goal percentage, connecting on an impressive 56.9 percent (41-of-72).
PSC’s 7-2 start is the best since the 1990-91 squad opened 11-2 en route to a 19-7 season. The Panthers are now idle for four weeks for final exams and
the holidays, returning to action with three straight road games the second week of January, beginning with an LEC affair at UMass Boston on Tuesday, Jan. 11th.
The next home game for the Panthers, where they are 4-0 this season, is Tuesday, Jan. 18th, against arch-rival Keene State (5:30 p.m.).
PANTHER NOTES: The Panthers, through the first half of the season, are leading the league in rebounding (49.6 rpg) and free throw percentage (.719),
and rank second in scoring (75.2 ppg), scoring margin (+17.2), and rebounding margin (+7.8)….Second-year head coach Lauren Lavigne uses a balanced
attack, with 10 players, including four freshmen, averaging between 12 and 25 minutes a game, and all 10 average between five and 11 points per contest .….In
addition to Albert, those among the LEC leaders include senior guard Courtney Jacques (Belmont, NH), who is 11th in scoring (10.8 ppg), tied for sixth in assists
(3.0 apg), and fourth in free throw percentage (.767); junior Krystyna Zagorski (Matawan, NJ), who is maintaining a 9.1 scoring average and is sixth in the LEC in
rebounding (7.3 rpg); freshman Jennifer Pelletier (Derry, NH), who is contributing 2.1 assists per game to rank tied for 12th; and freshman Whitney Morin
(Derby Line, VT), who is tied for sixth in the conference with 2.1 steals per contest.
