PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State College captured 10 of 11 individual events Saturday, and handed Eastern Connecticut State University a 135-76 women’s swimming & diving defeat at the PSC Natatorium.
The victory gives PSC a 3-2 overall record heading into a four-week break for final exams and the holidays. The Panthers are off until returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 9th, when they host Regis College. ECSU, a second-year program, completes the semester with a 2-3 record.
Plymouth State was led by a trio of juniors — Meaghan Buckley (Haverhill, MA), Sandra Twadell (Jaffrey, NH), and Sarah Lagasse (Haverhill, MA), who each placed first in two events. Buckley won both the 50-yard freestyle (25.89) and the 100-yard freestyle (56.57), giving her 12 individual freestyle victories in PSC’s five dual meets this season. Lagasse captured both the one-meter diving (188.20) and three-meter diving (213.95) events, giving her 11 diving victories this season, and Twaddell placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.52) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:48.91).
Four other Panther swimmers captured a first place – senior captain Christa Smith (N. Yarmouth, ME) in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:55.48), freshman Julia Larsson (Varberg, Sweden) in the 200 yard individual medley (2:33.81), freshman Andrea Girolamo (Dracut, MA) in the 100 yard butterfly (1:09.60), and freshman Allison Bregy (Camden, ME) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.43).
