PSC Names Athletic Director

Plymouth State College has named interim Athletic Director John P. Clark to the full-time post, according to PSC President Donald P. Wharton. The change is effective immediately. Clark also served as A.D. From 1980-1985.

“Plymouth State is very fortunate to have as its new Athletic Director such an outstanding and long-time PSC employee as John Clark,” Wharton said. I’m delighted for John, as his request to serve as Athletic Director was timely for PSC athletics as well as for John personally and professionally. I’m looking forward to working with John in this new role as I have enjoyed working with him for eight years in his role as Director of Administrative Services.”

A 1971 graduate of PSC, Clark has been at his alma mater every year but one since enrolling as an undergraduate in 1967. He spent a year teaching in the Ashland School District before returning to PSC full-time in 1973. Since then he has held a variety of roles including associate director of admissions from 1973-75, director of the College Union/Student Activities from 1975-80, director of athletics from 1980-85 and director of administrative services since 1985.

“I have been extremely fortunate to have served in a principal administrator’s position at the school I love for the last 16 years,” said Clark. “I was also fortunate this year to have served as the interim director of athletics. As I worked more closely with athletics, I began to realize how much I missed the excitement and challenges that face the department on a daily basis. Most of all, it really hit me how much I miss the regular contact with students. Realizing that I am reaching a point in my career where this opportunity may not present itself again, it seemed that this would be an opportune time to make a change.”

Clark is involved in a wide variety of civic activities. He is president of the Plymouth Area Support for Kids, and has been a coach and administrator for Plymouth Area Youth Softball and Baseball since 1986. He served on the Board of Judges for the Manchester Union Leader Athlete of the Month, and on the Board of Directors for the Pemigewasset National Bank. Clark has also held various positions for the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium, Pease Public Library, Speare Memorial Hospital, Plymouth Rotary Club and the Plymouth School District.
