PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior tri-captain Justin Wengell (Newington, CT) paced the Panthers with two goals Saturday afternoon, as Plymouth State
College defeated Salem State College 2-1, in a non-conference match-up at Panther Field.
Wengell started the scoring in the first half for Plymouth State when he received a nice through ball from fellow senior Rob Ball (Rockaway, NJ) and
finished it into the lower corner past Salem State keeper Timothy Doucette (Boxford, MA). Salem State struck right back when senior Todd Halsted (Danvers,
MA) scored an unassisted goal off a free kick in the 42nd minute to tie the game just before the half.
Wengell broke the 1-1 tie with his second goal of the game from a beautiful cross from freshman Brad Wyman (Manchester, NH) to put Plymouth on
top to stay.
Senior keeper Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, NJ) was solid in net for PSC making several impressives saves en route to his second win of the season.
Doucette was equally impressive fending off the Plymouth attack notching four saves.
PSC will next host non-conference opponent Bridgewater State at Panther Field Wednesday Sept. 18th at 3:30 p.m.
