DANBURY, Connecticut – Keene State College took all five first place votes for 25 points in the Little East Conference pre-season coaches poll for the upcoming field hockey season.
Plymouth State and UMass Dartmouth tied for second in the balloting with 17 points each, followed by Southern Maine (10 points) and Eastern Connecticut (6 points).
Keene State was the 1998 LEC tournament champion in the league’s first year of post-season conference play, and will look to repeat in 1999. Keene State, Plymouth State and UMass Dartmouth shared the first LEC regular season crown.
The Panthers make the trip to Keene State for the Owls’ Homecoming contest on Oct. 2nd, and will host UMass Dartmouth at Arold Field on Oct. 23rd.
Plymouth State posted an 8-9 overall record in 1998. Second-year head coach Abby Burbank returns eight players who were starters in ’98, compared to three a year ago, and 23 returning players overall who’ve seen action in a varsity game, compared to seven last fall.
The Panthers’ season opener is Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Gordon College, followed by the home opener on Thursday, Sept. 9, against UMass Lowell.
