ASCUTNEY, Vt. – Plymouth State College finished runner-up in the men’s division and sixth in the women’s Sunday in the giant slalom at the Boston College Winter Carnival held at
The Panther men placed second in the GS out of 10 schools, finishing behind Colby-Sawyer College for the second straight Sunday. UMass finished third and BC placed fourth. The
Panther women ended up seventh out of 11 schools after two skiers fell, finishing behind BC, UMass, Brown, Colby-Sawyer, Smith and Babson.
Plymouth State had four skiers place in the top 13 of the men’s race, which included more than 80 skiers. Senior Tim Mitchell (Ashland, Mass.) continued his outstanding season,
finishing in second place for PSC. He has finished first five times and second twice in his last seven races. Sophomore Garrett Lashar (Kingfield, Maine), senior Jake Manseau (Henniker,
N.H.) and freshman Tyler Barlow (South Burlington, Vt.) finished in the 11-12-13 spots, respectively.
Sophomore Whitney Swaffield (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was the PSC’s top placer in the women’s division, finishing fourth overall. She has led the Panthers in all eight races this winter,
finishing in the top five the last seven times with a pair of GS victories. PSC’s other top finishers were juniors Heidi Mann (Merrimack, N.H.) in 25th and Morgan Fippinger (Burlington,
Conn.) in 37th.
Plymouth State completes the regular season this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 15-16) at the Smith College Winter Carnival at Berkshire East Mountain in Massachusetts.
