NORTHFIELD, Vt.. – Plymouth State College split a women’s swimming and diving tri-meet Saturday afternoon, defeating Western New England College, 84-28, but losing to host Norwich University, 88-56.
The split leaves PSC at the .500 mark at 4-4 overall.
The Panthers were led by senior Meaghan Buckley (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine). Buckley placed first in the 100 and 200 year freestyle events (55.75 and 2:02.65, respectively, while also winning the 50 free against WNEC (25.82). Bregy won the 200 butterfly (2:25.53) and the 200 individual medley (2:25.13) against both schools, and the 100 fly (1:05.83) vs. WNEC.
Senior Sue Lassonde (Concord, NH) also placed first for PSC in the one-meter diving (167.78) against Norwich. Other PSC winners against WNEC included senior Sandy Twaddell (Jaffrey, NH) in the 500 and 1000 freestyle (5:49.29 and 11:57.31, respectively), Joyce Mailhot (Lewiston, Maine) in the 100 back (1:13.00), Andrea Boutilier (Chicopee, Mass.) in the 50 back (32.13), and Chrissi Crow (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 100 and 200 breaststroke (1:25.41 and 3:04.75, respectively).
The only remaining dual meet for PSC is at home on Wednesday, Feb. 2, vs. arch-rival Keene State (6 p.m.). The annual Division III New England Championships are Feb. 18-20 at Bowdoin College.
