SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Plymouth State College split a women’s swimming and diving tri-meet Saturday afternoon, defeating Western New England College, 78-41, but falling to Norwich University, 71-49.
The Panthers dominated the scoring against WNEC, winning all 11 individual events, but managed only one individual victory against Norwich.
Leading the way for PSC was sophomore Vanessa Re (West Hartford, Conn.), who captured three events against WNEC. She placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle (13:03.27), the 200 yard breaststroke (2:54.94) and 200 yard individual medley (2:43.47).
Four other Panthers brought home first place in two events apiece. Junior Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine) won the 100 breast (1:19.01) and 500 free (5:48.91), junior Amy Bernier (Bristol, Conn.) took the 200 free (2:12.73) and 100 butterfly (1:08.03), freshman Scarlette Scarborough (Salem, N.H.) came in first in the 200 fly (2:26.81) and 200 backstroke (2:31.62), and sophomore Andrea Boutilier (Chicopee, Mass.) won the 50 free (27.64) and 100 free (1:01.10). Freshman Katie Koch (Jeffersonville, Vt.) also captured the 100 back (1:12.51).
Bregy’s winning time in the 500 free was the only victory against Norwich.
No diving events were held.
The Panthers, 3-4, face rival Keene State Wednesday (Jan. 31) in Keene (6 p.m.) before returning home to host UMass Dartmouth Saturday (Feb. 3) at the PSC Natatorium (1 p.m.).
