CASTLETON, Vt. – Freshman Michelle Knox (Gilmanton, N.H.) had five hits and scored five runs Monday to lead Plymouth State College to a doubleheader sweep
over Castleton State College in a non-conference softball doubleheader, 5-3 and 11-4.
The wins brought the Panthers’ record to 6-18, while Castleton State is now 2-4.
Knox went 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and three runs scored in the opener. Sophomore Adriene Harvey (Nantucket, Mass.) drove in two key runs with
a single in the third inning.
Freshman Kristen Balles (Bedford, N.H.) picked up her first career victory (1-1) for PSC, pitching the first five innings and allowing only four hits and three runs (all
unearned). Sophomore Lyndsy Patten (Ellsworth, Maine) worked two scoreless innings of relief to earn her first save.
Seniors Kelly Anderson (Exeter, N.H.) and Lorienne Fink (Laconia, N.H.) each had three hits, including a triple, to lead a 15-hit attack for PSC in the second game.
Anderson also scored three runs and Fink drove in a pair. Knox added two hits, including a double, and three RBI.
Freshman Jes Leary (Farmington, N.H.) earned the win (4-7) for PSC in the nightcap with a complete-game, six-hit, four-strikeout effort.
PSC returns home for its final two doubleheaders Tuesday (Tuesday (Apr. 24) against Little East Conference foe Southern Maine (3:30 p.m.) and Thursday (Apr.
26) vs. New Hampshire College (3:30 p.m.).
