PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Keene State College swept a Little East Conference softball doubleheader from Plymouth State College Tuesday at D & M Park, 3-1 and 9-1.
The victories improve the defending LEC Champions to 13-12 overall and 4-4 in conference games, while PSC drops to 12-14 overall and 3-5 in the LEC.
Keene State pitchers limited PSC to two runs and seven hits on the afternoon. Freshman Katie Thompson allowed one run on two hits and four walks in 6.1 innings of the
opener, with Nicole Rees getting the final two outs for her second save. Freshman Michelle Zimmerman earned the complete game victory in the nightcap, allowing a run on four hits
and a walk in six innings of work.
Freshman Shauna Mullen led the Owls hitters in Game One with three singles. Sophomore Bonny Young sparked a fourth-inning rally with an RBI single. PSC starter Heather
Gadourey (North Billerica, Mass.) suffered the loss to drop to 4-2.
Sophomore Erin Akerman had three hits in the nightcap to lead the Owls, while Beth Ponte and Kerry Marsh each drove in three runs.
Freshman Adriene Harvey (Nantucket, Mass.) had two hits for PSC, including an RBI double. Starter Lyndsy Patten (Ellsworth, Maine) worked the first four innings and was
saddled with the loss.
PSC plays a non-conference twinbill Thursday (4/20) at Saint Joseph’s College (5 p.m.) before returning home Saturday (4/22) to host Rhode Island College in an LEC
doubleheader (1 p.m.). Keene State plays Thursday at the Mass. College of Liberal Arts (3 p.m.) before returning home Saturday to host UMass Dartmouth (1 p.m.).
