CASTLETON, Vt. – Sophomore Anthony Oglesby (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 18 points and collected 13 rebounds Thursday night, leading Plymouth State College’s men’s basketball team to an 81-74 non-conference road victory over Castleton State College.
The Panthers were down 12 early in the first half, but battled back to take a one-point lead just before the intermission. PSC pulled away in the second half and went on to win for the eighth time in its last 10 outings, improving to 18-6 overall. The Spartans drop to 5-19.
The outcome spoiled a fine offensive effort from Castleton State’s Sean Manovill. He hit 10 of 18 field goals and finished with a game-high 30 points and 11 boards. Jeff Weld and Joel Leichtnam also contributed 13 points apiece for the Spartans.
In addition to Oglesby’s production, PSC got 17 points, six rebounds and four assists from senior Kenny Stewart (Londonderry, N.H.) and 13 points from junior Mike Loughlin (Manchester, N.H.). Junior Ryan Chicoine (Gorham, Maine) added nine points and nine rebounds off the Panther bench. PSC played without leading scorer Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine), who is recovering from an ankle injury suffered Tuesday in the Keene State game.
Plymouth State returns home to host Rhode Island College Saturday (3:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference contest, the final game of the regular season. PSC has already clinched home-court advantage in the first round of next week’s LEC Tournament.
