BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State College broke open a 2-2 game with three unanswered second-half goals Thursday and the Bears went on
to a 5-2 non-conference men’s soccer win over New England rival Plymouth State at BSC’s Swenson Field.
BSC senior Andy Fuccillo (Braintree, Mass.) tallied his first career goal, and freshman sensation Allan Villatoro (Marlboro, Mass.) added a goal and
an assist as the Bears improved to 8-7 on the season. The Bears also received goals from Ryan Mackiewicz (Sandwich, Mass.) and Emmanuel Quayson
(Worcester, Mass.), as well as an own goal.
Plymouth State got first-half goals from junior Justin Wengell (Newington, Conn.), his fourth of the season, and freshman Derek Masse (Dracut,
Mass.), his second. The loss snapped PSC’s winning streak at five games and dropped the Panthers to 9-5-0 overall.
BSC keeper Brian Krug (Norton, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for the Bears as he made four saves. Panther senior goalkeeper Scott Laine
(Spencer, Mass.) played the first half and made three saves, and freshman Jayson Smith (Northwood, N.H.) came on for the second half and made two saves.
Plymouth State wraps up the regular season Saturday with a key Little East Conference game at UMass Dartmouth (1 p.m. ). The two teams are
currently tied for second place in the conference and are in a battle for the remaining bye in the first round of the LEC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
