Plymouth––A longtime Plymouth State University financial aid counselor who strives to provide superior customer service has been named the recipient of the 2011 Sara Jayne Steen Operating Staff (OS) Service award. Angela Torsey of Campton has worked at PSU for more than 11 years. Plymouth State University President Sara Jayne Steen said Torsey has earned a reputation as an extraordinary resource in helping people navigate the often complex system of higher education funding.

“Angela is clear, confident, articulate and supportive,” said Steen. “People have approached me and told me she provided all of the financial aid help they needed, much to their relief and
satisfaction, because they knew nothing of the process and she thoughtfully explained everything to them.”

Left to right, PSU President Sara Jayne Steen presents the 2011 Sara Jayne Steen Operating Staff Service Award to Angela Torsey of Campton, a longtime financial aid counselor.

The OS Speaker, Jennifer Frank, introduced Torsey as the winner and described her as a role model employee.

“Her caring demeanor, professional nature and superior job knowledge make her a valuable member of the Plymouth State financial aid team,” said Frank.

The criteria for winning the award include exemplifying the spirit and values of the institution, being dedicated to providing a learning environment that supports development of the mind, body and spirit, being actively active involved in University activities, and engaged in service to the wider community.

Torsey said she was shocked when she was announced as the OS Service Award winner.

“I consider this a huge honor and a privilege,” Torsey said. “I love what I do; the most rewarding part of my job is the relationships I make with the students. Some of them even stay in touch with me after they graduate and that means the world to me. I feel blessed to work here.”

Torsey, a Wentworth native and Plymouth Regional High School graduate, lives in Campton with her husband, Shawn, and their son, Hunter.

The Sara Jayne Steen Operating Staff Service Award winner was chosen by a seven member panel of faculty, staff, community members and students.
