QUEENS, N.Y. – The Plymouth State University baseball team opened the season on a strong note Saturday afternoon, sweeping Baruch College (N.Y.) in a non-conference doubleheader, 6-2 and 8-7 in extra innings.
Sophomore John Pogorzelski (Hillsborough, N.J.) keyed the Panthers in the opener with a pair of RBI, including one on a double. Senior C.J. He smacked a two-run homer in the third inning, and led off the eighth inning with a triple and scored what turned out to be the game-winning run. Sophomore Brandon Hodge (Bradford, Vt.) highlighted a four-run sixth inning with a three-run double.
Five Panthers hurlers saw action in the nightcap, with freshman Taylor Ketchum (Fairhaven, Mass.) getting the win in two innings of relief, and Labossiere piched the eighth inning to earn the save.
