PLYMOUTH, N.H.-Plymouth State University celebrated Arbor Day April 23 with the planting of two white oak trees in the lower Grafton parking lot.
A crowd that included faculty, staff and pre-schoolers from the Center for Young Children and Families watched as President Sara Jayne Steen provided the first shovelful of soil during the planting ceremony. Arbor Day is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. The event originated in the 1870s in Nebraska, and is now celebrated nationwide. PSU celebrates Arbor Day annually with new tree plantings at various locations around campus.
