PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the Plymouth State University field hockey players received regional recognition Wednesday with her selection as Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Player of the Week.
Sophomore Sarah Smith (Lexington, Mass.) earned the ECAC’s top weekly honor for Division III field hockey after being named Little East Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Smith becomes the first Panther student-athlete to be honored by the ECAC this season.
A sophomore forward, Smith (right) scored five goals and one assist to lead PSU to a 2-0 record last week, including both game-winning goals. She registered a hat trick last Wednesday in a 4-3 win over New England College, including the game-tying and game-winning goals in the final four minutes of the game, and she scored the first two goals and assisted on the third in PSU’s 7-1 conference win last Saturday over Fitchburg State.
The PSU field hockey team has won seven of its last eight games to improve to 8-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Panthers have two road games remaining before wrapping up the regular season next Saturday, Oct. 27, with a home game against Bridgewater State.
