PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The leading scorer on the Plymouth State University field hockey team has been selected to the prestigious Division III North/South Senior All-Star game, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Senior forward Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) will represent Plymouth State on the North team in the game, which will be played at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va. Silva is one of only eight players from New England selected for the event, and the first Plymouth State player to be invited since 1997.
A 5’7” co-captain, Silva (left) is enjoying another outstanding season in a Panther uniform. She leads the Little East Conference in goals (17), points (40), game-winning goals (6), and is tied for eighth in assists (6). Silva has scored at least one goal in 11 of PSU’s 15 games, with five multiple-goal games, and she has been selected the LEC Offensive Player of the Week three times.
Silva, who became PSU’s all-time leading scorer on Sept. 10, is a two-time All-Little East Conference First Team pick and was named to the All-New England West Region Second Team in 2004. She owns PSU career records for goals (64 thru Oct. 28) and points (150 thru Oct. 28), and ranks second on PSU career list for assists (22 thru Oct. 28).
The Panthers have clinched the LEC regular season title and top seed in next week’s annual LEC Tournament. PSU, 12-3 overall, will be out for its first LEC Tournament title since winning three straight from 2000-02.
Silva follows in a line of numerous Plymouth State players who have gone to past North/South Senior All-Star games. Panthers in the past decade to be invited include Tricia Boehner in 1994, Heidi Fiske in 1995, Jen Vinnitti and Shelley Hoar in 1996, and Erin Murphy in 1997.
