PLYMOUTH, N.H. – For the second week in a row, the starting quarterback on the Plymouth State University football team was recognized by the New England Football Conference for his performance in PSU’s 49-29 win last Saturday at Western New England College.
Senior John DeMarco (Milford, N.H./Milford) was named NEFC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, just seven days after he was selected to the NEFC Weekly Honor Roll. DeMarco has been successful both running and passing to help the Panthers get off to a 4-0 start this season. He shared this week’s honor with Bridgewater State College quarterback Steven Clark.
A 6’1”, 220-pound quarterback, DeMarco (right) threw for two touchdowns and ran for two scores in Saturday’s win over WNEC, leading the Panthers to 484 yards of total offense and 49 points. He completed 6-of-13 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns (one INT), a 34-yarder in the first quarter and a 41-yarded in the fourth quarter. DeMarco rushed 10 times for 45 yards (4.5 avg) and two touchdowns, a pair of one-yarders in the second and third quarters, respectively.
DeMarco leads the 16-team NEFC in passing efficiency (181.8), with season totals of 25-for-47 (53.2 percent), 571 yards, five TDs and two INTs. He has also rushed for 199 yards (3.8 avg.) and six touchdowns.
The Panthers, ranked third in this week’s New England Division III poll, have won their first four games for the eighth time in school history and the first time since 1998. PSU continues NEFC Boyd Division play this Saturday with a home game against Endicott College (1:30 p.m. at Currier Field).
